Market Readiness with BRE

We will help you get your new product or service ready to go to market, through our free market readiness programme in association with the Building Research Establishment (BRE)

Introduction

When you launch a new product or service, it is critical to take impartial advice so that you don't overlook potential risks and opportunities in the rush to get to market. Market readiness is an assessment tool that identifies how ready a business is to take a product to market and how well the product is likely to be taken up by the market. We support this process through our free market readiness programme with BRE.

BRE experts will work with you on your market readiness and provide confidential, independent technical advice, drawing on their 100-year track record of driving innovation and improving safety in construction. BRE are world leaders in built environment research and development. Through this programme you can tap into their specialist knowledge of built environment design, building processes, materials, products, systems, and technologies - along with their research and development capabilities.

"From the importance of good quality housing, to the materials we use, to adaptation to climate and social challenges, the work of BRE has been at the forefront of innovation"

Phil Wilbraham, Chair of the BRE Trust, September 2021

The Benefits

Our market readiness programme offers 1:1 and small group sessions to move your product up the market readiness scale. You will benefit from:

  • An expert assessment of where your product or service is in the marketplace.
  • A plan to show how you can improve your market readiness level (MRL) using the programme.
  • A business development roadmap showing what you need to address before launch.
  • Introductions to people, networks, and organisations that can help you progress.
  • Support from the I-Construct network to launch your product.

Who can apply

We can help 20 businesses bring new products and services to new and existing markets within the construction sector. Market readiness is suitable for I-Construct members that are:

  • Start-ups in their first year of operation.
  • Established businesses with new to the market products or services, either at pre-launch or recently launched stage.

If you are entering a new market with an existing product or service, we will consider applications on a case-by-case basis. In these circumstances, grant funding or our 1:1 mentoring offer may be more suitable.

How it works

Once you have expressed an interest, our team will assess your suitability for the programme. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with BRE's team of experts and set up your first 1:1 session. They will then guide you through the process. You will be part of one of five cohorts. The whole process should take no more than two months and involves two 1:1 sessions and two peer-to-peer workshops. We will discuss available dates with you when you apply.

There are three main stages to the process:

  1. Independent Review (1.5 hrs)
  2. Business Development Roadmap (4 hrs)
  3. Launch and Market Development (3.5 hrs)

"Our market readiness support programme is only available via I-Construct, it offer a one-off business development boost for 20 enterprising businesses with new to market products or services."
